This was a spec project done to win new work. The target company provides financial services technologies. I wanted to offer them the opportunity to take their products mobile with an iPhone application. Their desktop applications were extremely complex, containing hundreds of data visualizations, dashboards and other functionality. It was neither desirable, nor possible to try and shoe-horn all that functionality into a mobile interface. The mobile product was also aimed at a different market segment; knowledgeable consumers rather than professional day traders. This persona needed to easily assess their stock holdings and get a summary of market activity. I speculated that they would be particularly concerned with linking financial news to market activity. Based on this hypothesis, I created an innovative feature that would correlate market activity with financial news. For example, a statement by the Fed Chairman would be noted on the graph.
