Bio

Hi. I'm Zac.  Thanks for visiting my little online litterbox and welcome to first-person hell! I'm a UX director/designer/strategist currently with IBM.  My background includes enterprise software implementations, consumer focused interactive brand strategy and high-performance scientific computing.  The work I find most interesting usually is cross-channel and focuses on the "internet of things", especially tangible and embedded interaction.  Current research interests include Heidegger and "being" versus "experience" and Chalmers’ work on embodiment. Also Wabi Sabi and Japanese aesthetics, especially their relation to experience design (e.g. designing for slowness as opposed to efficiency). My work is also influenced by sci-fi, especially William Gibson, Jules Verne, Arthur Clarke and Philp K Dick.

Extracurriculars

I've spent a lot of time doing "circuit bending" lately. Circuit bending is taking electronic toys like Speak n Spells, old keyboards, etc and creatively short circuiting them to produce electronic music. Nothing like throwing an old Casio CT360 into a raging glitchfit of random noise! I'm also building a Beowulf cluster for real-time parsing of social media content.
